Fruits are an important part of diet and everyone wants to have these delicious items. To your surprise, some fruits can also be used to heal your diabetes problem.
Most people give up fruits after hearing the news of their diabetes as they think that sugar in fruits will aggravate their already derailed blood sugar. It’s not entirely true. Yes, while it’s true that some fruits (like mango) might derail your sugar control, but that’s not for all the fruits you eat. Rather, some fruits are highly potent in taking down diabetes. Berries: Berries, strawberry or blueberry, are diabetes friendly fruits because they are extremely rich in natural anti-oxidants. Think of antioxidants as natural toxin removers. One of the most important anti-oxidants in berries is called “anthocyanin”.
Anthocyanins are reported to increase insulin production and lower sugar levels. You can take either blueberries or strawberries to get same effect. In addition to anthocyanin, berries are filled with anti-oxidants, vitamins and have a low glycemic index making them a super fruit for diabetic people.
You can use them as whole fruits or add them to your desserts and smoothies.
Apples: Apples are rich in fiber and low in calories making another good choice for diabetes cure. Apples give a filling effect due to their high content of fiber (4 grams an apple) and they can control abnormal sugar swings. These are also a good option to beat bad cholesterols of body increasing the insulin sensitivity.
The best way of using apples is to eat one fresh apple, raw in the morning. This will give you a steady glucose control throughout the day. Using them as fresh fruits, baked apples, desserts and other forms give same effective results so use them as you wish.
Apricots: Apricots are a good choice in summer times as they are rich in fiber, low in carbs and calories. Two apricots are sufficient enough to complete daily vitamins requirement.
Oranges: Oranges are tasty pulps of vitamin. These are effective in delaying and treating the complications of diabetes. They contain potassium and folate that normalizes the blood pressure. Oranges are also low in both the glycemic index and carbs.
Pears: Pears are rich in potassium and are proven to give positive results in diabetic patients. Being rich in potassium, they are extremely valuable in increasing natural insulin secretion. In addition, it is also helpful in decreasing blood pressure and diabetes complications.
Dried Figs: Taking dried figs with meals is a good way to avoid glucose spike after the meal. Figs are rich in healthy monounsaturated fatty acids that are good for controlling sugar. It also competes with unhealthy fats and helps to decrease insulin resistance. You should include avocados in your daily platters.
Papaya (Papita): Papaya is a new addition to the diabetes fruits. It is a fruit very common in the South Asia. It is a wonder fruit as researches have proved that it has got all properties of a diabetic friendly food. It is rich in vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. Researchers suggest this fruit to diabetics to control their high glucose.
